Louise Cooper, 100, of Culbertson, Montana, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 11, 2019 at the Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson.
Louise Rosiena Eschenbacher was born December 23, 1918 on the family farm near Froid, Montana to August Herman and Maria Cathrina (Wagner) Eschenbacher. She was raised and educated in the area, walking a mile to school every day by McCabe.
Louise was united in marriage to Alvin George Dell Cooper on May 9, 1942 at the Methodist Parsonage in Culbertson, MT. Alvin entered the U.S. Army on August 6, 1942 and Louise joined him in Jefferson, MO for his basic training. Louise traveled with her husband during his entire service career, Including Lincoln, NE, Winfield, KS, San Angelo, TX, and Chanute Field, Illinois. After Alvin’s discharge, they returned to Froid, MT. After two years they bought Alvin’s grandfather’s farm, where they remained until Alvin became ill. They then moved into the town of Culbertson. Louise remained in Culbertson until her death at the age of 100 years old.
Louise loved seeing all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Alvin would travel many miles to see each one.
She loved being on the farm, raising her chickens, ducks and geese. Louise especially enjoyed springtime on the farm with all the young animals. She also assisted Alvin at the Montana Liquor Store # 89. She established the Maude Schustze foundation after Maude’s death in 1982.
Louise was a very active member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary where she traveled extensively with the Auxiliary, on a Local and State level, Culbertson Senior Citizens, and a charter Member of both North East Montana Threshing an Antique Club and the Culbertson Saddle Club.
She enjoyed watching and listening to birds, reading (she was a very fast reader), her cat Estelle and going to as many graduations, weddings, ball games and activities as she could. She was often seen helping many friendless people. She was a friend to the friendless.

Louise is survived by her children, son, Sylvester (Sandy), Sidney MT; daughter, Juanita Walter Olson, Culbertson, MT and daughter, Florence Braathen, Minot, ND; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and many that adopted her as their grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents and all of her siblings.
