A memorial service celebrating Eileen’s life will be held Friday afternoon, August 3, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Faith United Methodist Church in Williston. Rev. Ross Reinhiller will officiate.


Friends may call at the church one hour before service time.


Interment of the cremated remains will follow the service at the Riverview Cemetery in Williston.

Eileen Birkeland, 81, of Williston, North Dakota, passed away Tuesday morning, July 31, 2018 at her home in Williston.

Eileen Angela (Stein) Birkeland was born April 9, 1937. She was born and raised in the White Earth Valley to Henry and Edna (Barstad) Stein, they moved to Williston when she was a young girl.

On October 17, 1954 Eileen was united in marriage to Arvid Gene Birkeland at the Methodist church in Williston. They celebrated more than 50 years of marriage before Arvid’s passing.
Eileen was dearly loved by her family, and spending time with them was her greatest joy. Being with grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought delight to her heart and a smile to her face.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where she was active in many areas including quilting where she enjoyed working and visiting with others. Always the supportive mother she was the homeroom mom for all her children throughout the years. Involved in community service at many levels, and rarely missed a swim meet in or out of town.

Eileen is survived by her five children, David (Cheryl) Birkeland and their children Jacob (Elise) and Andy (Daniel); Sally (Lynn) Helms and their children Nathan (Hannah), Anjel (Sebastian) and Paul; Bette (Don) Grande and their children Alec (Hollie), Ian (Kayla) and Ingrid; John (Donita) Birkeland, and their child Caleb; Mary Beth (Ty) Zimdars and their children Maria, Talia, Angelia, and Wayne. Three great-grandchildren Amalie Aas, Tobias Gene Grande and Christian Judah Grande. Also, surviving is her sister Judy (Terry) Shafer and many favorite cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and numerous friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Arvid; her mother and father; and two brothers, Jackie and Jerry; sister-in-law Grace Neubauer and brother-in-law Tom Neubauer; nephew Dan Neubauer.
